We aim to build an inclusive world where excluded and disadvantaged communities can use conventional and unconventional educational means and other forms of human capital development to actualise their dreams. Strongly encapsulated in the idea of “I matter too”, this shows that no one should be left behind and disenfranchised from self-actualisation, especially due to socio-economic disadvantages. It also demonstrates that these excluded communities could dictate their development tempo through the bottom-up approach found in development discourse.

Over the years, we have developed a niche focus on inclusive education, technology for development, social protection, public policies, skills and social enterprise, and development research.  We focus on underserved demographics such as street and out-of-school children, rural children and families, girls, indigent youth, people with disability, and under-funded schools.

In summary, research and sustainable practice of social policy and inclusive development drive our efforts.

Vision & Mission

A world where traditionally disadvantaged communities can fully realise their goals without being hindered by educational and skill gaps.

Our Mission is to chart an inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development for disadvantaged communities through education, digital access, policy advocacy and research, career mentorship, entrepreneurship, and skill acquisition.

OUR STORY

In the last quarter of 2014, while completing her 4-year Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Anthropology programme at the University of Nigeria in the hilly and quiet town of Nsukka (Nigeria), Chimezie Anajama conceived the idea of Blooming Social Pen. In 2015, it became the anchor for the give-back-to-Nsukka educational outreach programme to under-funded public schools and orphanages she did as a way of expressing her gratitude to the town for giving her a haven for her studies.

Subsequently, with her sociology background and guidance from her mentor – the late Nnaemeka C. Amadi, she realised that it could be more. Hence, Blooming Social Pen is an initiative that strongly focuses on inclusive education, reducing inequality for disadvantaged communities, economic prosperity and improving human capital development.

OUR CAUSE

The core of development interventions in many developing African countries is poverty alleviation, reducing inequality, and economic prosperity. Previous and current studies show that traditionally excluded populations such as street children, girls, women, young people, rural families, and people with disability are severely excluded from accessing resources that could create life-changing impacts. In addition, they make up a huge population of people who need social and economic development interventions. Solving these problems for these groups drives our efforts in global development.  We work towards closing these gaps via our inclusive development approach. This manifests through our various thematic areas such as policy research and advocacy, social protection, entrepreneurship, inclusive education, and inclusive use of digital technology.
